What Causes Foundation Problems in Anchorage?
Foundation settlement occurs when your home’s foundation shifts and unevenly sinks into the ground. Soil changes over time and initial construction issues can also lead to a weak or failing foundation. The best foundation repair solution is one that has been customized for the conditions and history of your home.
The Impact of Soils
The soil your home is built on and that surrounds the home plays a major role in the stability and strength of your foundation. Expansive soils shrink and expand with the dramatic changes that each season brings, exerting pressure against basement and crawl space walls. Hydrostatic pressure leads to uneven settlement, where the foundation sinks unevenly into the soil.
Loosely compacted “fill soil” (the soil that was added back after your home’s foundation was dug out and constructed) also contributes to foundation problems. Leaks, excessive humidity, groundwater levels, drainage and the angle of the foundation to your yard and garden all play a role in how your foundation performs. Luckily, Foundation Supportworks offers effective proven techniques to stabilize foundations. Your Anchorage foundation repair contractor in the Foundation Supportworks network can design a solution that prevents further movement, cracking, or bowing, and permanently strengthens and stabilizes your foundation.

Project Location: Anchorage, AK 99508
Comment: I have a triangular area (50' by 84') of unstable ground. I proposed helicol piling around the perimeter of the corners, but since we have crawl space I am wondering if the jack system would be a good option to assess after installing the piles whether the interior foundation are still showing sagging.

Comment: We recently had an earthquake and the flooring and baseboards separated from one another. I have been down in both crawlspaces and cannot see anything amiss but I also do not know exactly what to look for. When the floors separated my front and rear door became un square and will not open. I think part of the foundation may have settled but I can't be sure. Please contact me as soon as possible!
Project Location: Anchorage, AK 99507
Comment: We have a building slab that measueres 58,500 square feet that is constructed over a lnadfill and had dropped by 3 + feet between the piers.
Project Location: Anchorage, AK 99518
Comment: One corner of the house has sunk 4.5 inches on foundation walls
Project Location: Anchorage, AK 99507
Comment: I have maybe three to four inches of settlement on a 4 foot sonotube pile that I thought was founded on consolidated gravel. That particular sonotube pile carries much of the weight of a porch/deck and two other sonotube piles carry relative little by comparison and they have not settled. The house-side of the deck/porch is bolted through a header to the house, and the house is founded on deeper concrete footings and it has not settled. I would like to be able to raise the deck above the settled sonotube without demolishing or substantially disassembling the deck. I suspect the settled pile might not settle much more, but I don't know that for sure. In that case, the solution might simply require jacking up that corner of the deck.
