As the fall season starts to transition into the cold Michigan winter, insulation starts to matter more and more for both energy costs as well as comfort.  Crawlspace insulation is often overlooked by many homeowners.  However, insulating and protecting your crawlspace is very important.  Not only does upgrading your crawlspace reduce energy costs, keep creepy crawlies out, keep floors warms, it also helps add thousands of dollars in home value.  Using a vapor barrier called CleanSpace that covers the ground, combined with SilverGlo insulating wall panels; this crawlspace is now transformed into a cost efficient place that any homeowner would feel comfortable living above.

Near the end of last year, our call center received a call from Joshua, a local homeowner in Wyoming, MI. He told us that he had a feeling the cold moist air in his crawlspace might be affecting the temperature throughout his home. Joshua also admitted that he was pondering the idea of selling his current home in the future. He knew our crawlspace work would increase the value of his home. Joshua had been seeing Ayers Basement Systems commercials on TV and knew as the local crawlspace experts we could likely provide effective solutions for his home.

After assessing Joshua’s crawlspace needs, we prescribed our patented CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system to address the cold moist air concerns below his home. The CleanSpace encapsulation product is a 20mm thick plastic lining that completely seals off the crawl space from the grim elements it faces below. To supplement the CleanSpace, additionally we installed spray foam insulation and SilverGlo wall paneling. SilverGlo panels are constructed very differently than other types of insulation. These panels contain tiny graphite particles that permeate its foam insulation, this is what gives the panel that silver shine. These tiny particles serve a functional purpose besides just looks, they reflect heat and lower the material's conductivity for superior R-value insulation.  This will increase the energy efficiency of Joshua’s home and help lower his energy costs. With this dynamic system in place, it became evident that Joshua’s cranky crawlspace was no match for our level of expertise.

With the weather being so cold recently, everyone needs their basements and crawlspaces insulated to keep their homes warm and dry from all the snow. This crawlspace needed insulation and a good makeover. The homeowner decided to go with our CleanSpace system and SilverGlo insulation. 

Block walls are one of the most common ways to build a basement or crawlspace but they are also the least resistant to water and air which means...cold and wet. Our CleanSpace system encapsulates the crawlspace so no outside elements can get in. Our SilverGlo insulation makes sure to help with energy savings, so the heat in your house stays in this winter. 

The before photo of this Bear Lake, MI crawl space shows where water was leaking down the walls and puddling up around the perimeter - note the water stains on the walls. Wet crawl spaces can lead to a variety of problems for homes like mold, bad odors, and structural damage in the form of rotted floor joists. The white plastic liner in the after photo is a part of our CleanSpace system. When laid down, CleanSpace creates a vapor barrier that won’t allow moisture to cause any of those crawl space problems. Mold won’t grow on it because it’s made of inorganic material, and it will prevent water from causing structural damage or bad odors. The SilverGlo Walls and Froth Pak foam in the after photo will play a similar role by providing both insulation and keeping out moisture. This crawl space won’t have any more problems in the future.
