Earlier this year we received a call from Eric, a homeowner in Boon, MI. Eric wanted to know if we could help him with the bow/cracking wall problem in his garage. Luckily, our new friend called the right professionals to guide him in his fight against the stubborn walls.

After having additional estimates drawn up, our new friend found the Ayers solution to be the best fit for him. We stabilized the garage with a steel rod that runs from the wall anchor to an anchor placed in the exterior of the garage. Jesse set his water bottle down, and it rolled to the far side of the room. It had never been this obvious that his living room floor was slanted, so he researched and called Ayers for help. Our crew of experts stopped by his house and evaluated the situation. They recommended installing SmartJacks, a supplemental support system of top-grade floor jacks. Compared to store-bought floor jacks, SmartJacks are zinc-plated, hot dipped in galvanized steel, and placed two feet below the surface to limit load-bearing stress. Jesse loves his level floor!

Mary noticed her kitchen floor was slanted and worried about the damage this could cause, so she called Ayers to learn about our foundation solutions. We sent our professionals to her home to evaluate and recommended installing the SmartJacks supplemental support system. This homeowner contacted us because he had a bowed basement wall that was worsening over time. The home was a rental property that was vacant at the time and also up for sale, so the issue needed to be fixed as soon as possible. We installed the effective PowerBrace system to stabilize the wall and potentially help push it back to its proper position. We installed the steel I-Beams at the base of the wall and attached them to joists above the wall. The system was secured into place with steel brackets and once tightened, the wall was immediately stabilized. We also made sure to reinforce the joists in the home to alleviate some of the pressure that was being exerted on the failing wall.

Joseph and Bonnie knew about a little bit of settlement when they bought the home, but it has progressively gotten worse. The couple wanted to take care of it now before it became a bigger issue, so they called Ayers for an inspection. Upon inspection, our crew noticed that one wall had settled about three quarters of an inch and another settled an inch and a half. All three of the main beams were sagging as well. Our crew determined that Joseph and Bonnie’s home would need SmartJacks to stabilize the foundation. 

SmartJacks are steel supports that balance the foundation of the crawlspace, lifting it to its original position. They can be adjusted so the home will never shift out of place and are anchored into the ground with poured concrete.
