An Eagan, MN,  homeowner was chatting with her neighbor one day when she learned that her neighbor had their home tested for radon gas. She did not know the dangers of radon gas but decided to find a radon mitigation specialist in her area just to be sure that her home wasn't affected. Through an online search, she quickly found our website. Impressed with our radon mitigation system pictures, she signed up for her FREE estimate and several weeks later, one of our Design Specialists, Brad W, was headed out to the home. 

Brad began his inspection by placing a continuous radon monitoring test on the lowest level of the home. This test works to collect radon levels in the home over a 48-hour timespan, delivering the average result when the test concludes. When Brad finished his inspection, he met with the homeowner to deliver the diagnosis. Brad began by explaining that radon is a radioactive gas that is emitted from the breakdown of soil surrounding your home's foundation. It gets into the home through tiny cracks and holes in the foundation. The gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, thus making it completely undetectable without the proper testing. Brad went on to say that the EPA recommends taking action for any levels higher than 4 pCi/L, as this dangerous gas has been linked to the development of lung cancer, claiming 21,000 lives annually. Brad finished by saying that if the results of the test came back higher than the recommended level, he would strongly urge the homeowner to consider installing a radon mitigation system. A typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. When installed by a professional, a radon mitigation system will lower the concentration of radon gas in the interior air to the minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health safety agencies. The homeowner liked Brad's plan but decided to wait for the results to return to make her choice. 48 short hours later, Brad returned to the home to read the results, which returned well above 4 pCi/L, so Brad and the homeowner began to discuss the best day for our team to come out and install her system. 

Several weeks later, our Foreman, Dakota M, was able to place the system in the home. Now, our customer can have renewed faith in the air circulating her home!

A Saint Paul, MN, homeowner had been facing an issue with his sump pump for a while. Over the years, the system had started to display problems such as loud and unusual noises, cycling in times of no water intrusion, and not functioning when the basement needed it the most. He decided to find a sump pump repair company near Saint Paul, MN, and quickly found us and signed up for his FREE estimate. 

Several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Ryan P, headed out to the home. He completed his thorough inspection of the basement and then met with the homeowner to go over his findings. Ryan began by saying that while the outdated sump pump was not helping the basement, he found evidence of water intrusion in other areas, indicating that the problem was spreading, meaning a sump pump might not be enough to deal with excess water. Ryan first recommended our CleanSpace, a 100% waterproof tarp-like material that gets installed directly to foundation walls to direct water downward into a perimeter drain. In this case, Ryan recommended the drain to be our WaterGuard system. WaterGuard is a below-floor French drain that acts as a channel, directing water entering it to the appropriate disposal site. An Eagan, MN, homeowner was growing more concerned about her basement bedroom. Each time it rained, the carpet of the room took on water, becoming overly saturated. The homeowner contacted a handyman, who referred him to us. He decided to set up his FREE estimate, and several weeks later, Darin S, one of our Design Specialists, was headed out to the home. 

Darin completed his thorough inspection of the basement. When he finished, he met with the homeowner to deliver his recommendations. First, Darin recommended our WaterGuard. This unique French drain gets installed below the slab of the concrete floor and atop the footing of the foundation. It works to collect water entering through holes or cracks in the floor, giving the water a channel to flow freely to a disposal site. One thing Darin had noticed was that the basement lacked a means of disposing of unwanted water. For this reason, Darin recommended our SuperSump sump pump. This pump keeps your basement dry using a float-operated and fully submersible pump. The homeowner agreed with Darin's recommendations and scheduled the job on the spot. 

On the day of the project, our Foreman, Diego B, led his team through the flawless installation of 34ft of WaterGuard, and 1 SuperSump sump pump. Now, our customer can rest easy knowing that her water intrusion issues have been handled! 

Sam from Saint Paul, Mn was in hopes of renewing his basement systems to help provide his home with more security against water that could potentially harm the foundation of his home. The first step he took to protect his home was to upgrade his sump pump and insert a new drainage system. Sam immediately contacted the Appointment Center here at American Waterworks and scheduled his Free Estimate which entitled him to a full home inspection. Once scheduled, our Design Specialist then attended his home and began a thorough inspection of the property. Our Design Specialist then proposed to Sam that the best solution is to invest in our TripleSafe Sump Pump system along with our Waterguard Drainage system. Sam was comfortable with the proposal and went forward with the project by setting a date of installation. 

Once the date of installation arrived, our Foreman along with his Production team  attended to the property and began to jackhammer the concrete along the perimeter of the basement to insert the WaterGuard Drainage System. Our WaterGuard is a patented below-floor drain that rests in a bed of drainage on top of the foundation footing. This type of WaterGuard is most commonly used due to the resistance against water clogs and easy access ports to properly flush out the mud from the system. Once inserted the Production team then proceeded to remove the old sump pump system and replace it with a TripleSafe Sump Pump. The TripleSafe Sump Pump has three levels of protection which helps solve all three water problems. Once the job was done the team then places a fresh layer of concrete over the project to provide a finishing look and secure the system to stay in place.

The homeowner agreed with the proposal, so they worked with the Design Specialist to schedule an installation date. Our Foreman, Lane, and his crew were assigned to the project. When they arrived, they began by securing WaterGuard along the basement walls. Once the WaterGuard was secured, the crew attached CleanSpace to the unfinished basement walls. Finally, the crew wrapped up by installing an Aprilaire in the corner of the room. The homeowner was delighted to know their basement was properly waterproofed.
