Longtime Portage homeowners Rande and his wife were tired of running up and down stairs to vacuum up water every time it rained. Water intrusion beneath their favorite living space affected comfort and indoor air quality. Ayers installed a new egress window connected to a WaterGuard® perimeter drainage system via WellDuct®, ensuring any water entering the window drains directly into a SuperSump® sump pump. We also added CleanSpace® vapor barrier to protect the walls and improve air quality. Now, the couple can enjoy a dry, healthy basement without the hassle of emergency cleanups.

The before photo shows the unprotected crawl space and where moisture would come through the dirt floor and walls. Around the edges of the crawl space, water had started to puddles up and dampen the dirt floor. The walls had also started to stain from moisture. CleanSpace vapor barrier was the solution to keeping water out and improving the living conditions of this home. The moisture liner blocks out water and won’t allow for mold growth either. Also seen in the after photo are the SilverGlo panels and FrothPak insulation. SilverGlo wall panels and FrothPak are a form of insulation that keeps out air and humidity. All three products create an airtight seal that won’t allow moisture or imperfect temperatures to enter.

After visiting the home, we identified several areas that could be improved, including the crawl space. Often times the floors above a crawl space will be cold if the crawl space isn’t properly insulated. We added TerraBlock insulation to the floors and SilverGlo to the walls to reflect heat back into the space, making it warmer. The last step was to add the CleanSpace liner to block water vapor and lower humidity in the space. By fixing up her crawl space, this homeowner is sure to save on her energy bills.

Our vapor barrier is called the CleanSpace system. It is a very thick, plastic material that will keep all outside elements (dirt, bugs, critters etc.) outside. CleanSpace is also durable enough that it can be walked on, crawled on, have stuff stored on it and it won't rip or stretch out. We highly recommend vapor barrier, it keeps your basement dry and makes it more appealing.
