The crawl Space access was a screened access door to allow venting into the crawl space area. Previous construction techniques used this technology as it was considered proper to allow the area fresh air to move in and out throughout the year.

After

New building science has proven a crawl space that is enclosed from the outside will provide a healthy living space in the entire home. Remember to use a sealed access point with a proper door when updating your crawl space.

Problem: This crawl space was very humid and full of condensation. Also as you can see it flooded.

Solution: We installed sufficient drainage with a sump pump that discharges outside. The Clean Space vapor barrier was installed to isolate the home from the earth, making it a dry & healthy space.

• Damp, musty smells

• Higher than healthy levels of humidity

• Less-than-desirable heating and cooling costs

Challenge: Access doors or open vents in a crawl space is one of the areas where the outside environment enters and affects an entire home. 

Solution: A sealed crawl space access is one of the many things we do when encapsulating a crawl space. We also installed a well for improved access and drainage.

Challenge: This crawl space could be described as “high and dry”... but the dirt floor and lack of insulation on the exterior walls made the home’s floor cold during the winter months. 

Solution: We completely sealed the crawl space from the outside environment, and added spray foam insulation. Spray foam offers a  high R-value, sealing air leaks and also serving as a moisture barrier.
