Blacksburg Crawlspace saved by CleanSpace

Looking into this crawlspace in Blacksburg, SC is enough to scare anyone. Not only is it dark and dirty, but the house is barely being held up. Cinderblocks and bricks is what this house was relying on to stay afloat. Installation hung from the ceiling and littered the floor, along with old piping that looks hazardous to be around. Water was seeping through the walls, causing damage and high moister levels. With all this going on, one might run screaming at the mess, but not our All-Dry of the Carolina’s Team! We were able to solve the problem with a combination of our waterproofing technology and foundation repair systems.

Total Encapsulation of Blacksburg, SC crawlspace

When it comes to your crawlspace, protecting it from water build up is very important. This crawlspace in Blacksburg, SC was experiencing water puddling around the perimeter causing high levels of moisture. When water puddles in the crawlspace is can cause damage to the foundation, ruin insulation, and mold, mildew, and decay.

In this specific case, the puddling water had caused mold to begin to grow around the crawlspace. To fix this issue our All-Dry of the Carolinas team used Mold-X Cleaner was cleaning the contaminated mold surfaces in the crawlspace. Mold-X’s purpose is to remove and reduce staining from mold, mildew, dirt, soil, and other organic debris from surface areas in the crawlspace. Our team then placed CleanSpace in the crawlspace, wrapping it around the walls, floor, and piers. CleanSpace is a 20 mil tick liner that is laid across the crawlspace floor and wrapped around walls and piers. This liner works as a barrier to keep moister that is produced from the ground out of the crawlspace. In addition to the CleanSpace a SuperSump was added to the crawlspace as a way of pushing excess water that enters from outside. The SuperSump works in coordination with the Aprilaire, a dehumidifier which is used to collect extra moister that is produced under your home. The moister collected from the dehumidifier is then drained into a condensate pump which then pumps the water from the crawlspace. With all of these products All-Dry of the Carolinas was able to completely waterproof this crawlspace!

Chester, SC Crawl Space Encapsulation

This homeowner had a large amount of moisture in its crawlspace when they called us, but this was not the first time they dealt with water intrusion issues. Previous to water issues in the crawlspace, they had water intrusion in their basement, that was solved with a different company and products, however, they did not want that company to do more waterproofing work, so they called us. This was a relatively simple and quick fix, but a very important one, because of just how much moisture was getting into the crawlspace.

The "before" picture shows off the how the ground in the crawlspace is almost like mud, that's a lot of water! You can even see where mud has pushed, rubbed on the hot water heater. This crawlspace was in some pretty rough shape, but with a little bit of work and a great product, our crew made this crawlspace look like new!

The "after" picture shows the huge transformation that happened in this crawlspace. Our crew had a lot of different objects to go around in this area but did it with expertise. Sealing this crawlspace is one of the biggest parts of the job because of its importance. If it is not sealed correctly, then the moisture is still going to make its way into the "encapsulated" crawlspace.

Simple Crawlspace Encapsulation in Chapin, SC

One of the most common projects that we do here at All-Dry of the Carolinas are full crawlspace encapsulations with CleanSpace. This basically means that at the very least, CleanSpace is laid over the entire crawlspace and is sealed to the walls. However, the CleanSpace is usually installed with several other products. Of course, the products that are used differ from job to job, depending on the severity of the problems, and what exactly the homeowner hopes to get from the system.

The "before" picture shows off the crawlspace before the CleanSpace was installed by the crew. However, the crawlspace didn't look quite this nice when the crew arrived. This photo was taken after they had cleaned out the area a little bit and sealed the vents, which can be seen along the top of the wall. Our Specialist noted a higher than average relative humidity level, which was one of the main concerns of the homeowner.

The "after" photo shows the same area, but with the CleanSpace almost completely installed. The liner has been completely laid out, with drainage matting under it, there is just one step left in the process, which you can actually see being done in this photo. One of the most important parts of installing CleanSpace is to make sure that it is sealed correctly. The reason that this is so important is because if the CleanSpace is not sealed correctly, then water vapor and moisture can still get into the area, which is exactly what we want to not happen.

Damp Chapin, SC Crawlspace with Falling Insulation Gets CleanSpace Encapsulation

One extremely common sign of high moisture levels is insulation falling. This is because insulation is very absorbent and will soak up the moisture that is in the air. The insulation then becomes heavier, which causes it to sag and begin falling down. At this point, the humidity levels are already high enough to cause concern, the wet insulation could start growing mold.

This was almost the exact case with this homeowner in Chapin, SC. They had been noticing water in the crawlspace during heavy rains and began seeing that some of the insulation was falling down. One of the main reasons for the high humidity levels was because the crawlspace was not sealed up in any way. Water could get into the crawlspace and sit there evaporating because nothing was stopping it. However, we were able to stop this by encapsulating their crawlspace.

The "after" picture shows off the same area in the crawlspace, but with our CleanSpace installed. The difference it makes is absolutely incredible. During this project, our crew also removed the damp, falling insulation to ensure that mold wouldn't have anywhere to grow. During the installation, CleanSpace is securely fastened and sealed to the walls and pillars under the home. This is what really sets the CleanSpace and our installation apart from other liners.
